So I'm interested in one of those mini-ITX systems from Via but they only have 1 PCI slot. I have seen PCI risers that come up and out at a right angle, but is there something similar that has 2 angled PCI slots that run from the 1 on board PCI slot??

Plug-in PCI bridges do exist, but they're unlikely to be small or cheap enough for you to consider one for inside a mini-ITX system. The smallest thing I can think of with two PCI slots is the Shuttle SS40G.

I have one of the Shuttle SS51G systems, and it is really very cool. For something the size of a toaster, it is quite powerful and configurable. Obviously not too many slots or bays, but certainly good for general purpose if size is an issue. (I can almost hear the Dr. Ruth joke now...)

Ditto to that... i love my shuttle. The SS51G has AGP and PCI slots, one of each, so you can slap in a graphics card and whatever else you need in the PCI slot. Kick ass little system.

Something you 2 might be interested in. SpeedFan is a windows app that will allow you to set the fan speed to a higher degree then the auto gaurdian in the BIOS. Mine now turns it's main fan completly off when it's not needed, and will kick in at full speed if the processor gets near 72 C. Between there, it spins it at a variable rate, and I also have it set to kick in if the case warms up too much.

Now if only I could get the power supply fan to be a bit more quiet. The SS51 is nice for the size, but the noise is annoyning. I'd like to keep it up on my desk like the G4 Cube, but it may end up going near the floor to reduce the noise I notice.

I want to build a small system for LAN parties and wonder if this system could handle the reqs for BF1942... You know the graphics, cpu, memory, etc. Yes I'm still hooked on that damn thing!

Edit: Well I looked at the specs and it appears to be just fine. Comments on it for gameplay?

With the onboard video, no. But with any capable AGP card in it, the system rocks for LANs. Mine has now been to Quakecon, SPLAT twice, and has been moved to a few friends houses quite a bit. This weekend it's going to EverLAN. And it works perfectly with BF1942. The front USB and headphone jacks are useful for sound and the joystick I use for the airplanes.

My box has: P4 2.26, Radeon 9700, 120gb drive, 512 DDR 333 memory, and a Plextor combo DVD/CD-RW drive.

I want to get one of the shuttle systems what does anyone think about the new SB51G that is about to be released. I am trying to decide if it's worth wating and about 100.00 dollars more for the intel chipset vs the SiS one.(the systems look identical except for the chipset correct me if I'm wrong) I have never had a non intel chipset has there been any problems with the SiS one.

The SB51 is almost identical to the SS51. The differences:

1. The SB51 will support Hyperthreading when P4 processors start using it
2. The SB51 is a smidge faster in memory benchmarks. Enough to notice, but not enough to be concerned with.
3. The SB51 power supply uses the proper P4 power supply with a 4 pin square power connector in addition to the ATX connector. The SS51 uses a 4 pin inline for the extra power.
4. Faceplate color. SS51 = light blue, SB51=light brown

Beyond that, they are basicially the same. When the SB51 is released, expect it's price to be the same as the SS51 (online vendors are trying to cash in on preorders for them).

I figured the SS51 was less because they are trying to unload them before the SB51 comes out. If they were the same price I would probably just wait a couple weeks and get the lateest one. Maybe the price for the SS51 will drop.
